Sports Injury Prevention

Writer's picture: Allen PhysiotherapyAllen Physiotherapy

There are many things we can do to decrease the risk of incurring an injury from sport or any of our recreational activities.

Preparation for our activity is the most important aspect of injury prevention. This involves more than just a warm up but consists of ensuring our body is ready and conditioned for the task we are asking it to perform. Preparation such as flexibility, technique, strength and fitness are important to add to balance, skill development along with a safe environment and equipment are all important aspects which we can decrease injury risk if we work at improving.

Physiotherapists will talk about muscle imbalance or core stability which will be different for each individual and with proper assessment can be addressed as part of a comprehensive injury prevention strategy. This is not just important for the elite athlete but also for us in the greater population who enjoy activity and wish to continue without interruption.
